Firmware update for 450D / Rebel XSi

Canon released a firmware update for EOS 450D / Rebel XSi. The 1.0.9 firmware update fixes the following issues:
  • Abnormal operation of AEB (Auto Exposure Bracketing) under specific conditions
  • Live View exposure simulation warning not properly displayed
  • Images cannot be played back after continuous shooting when a printer is connected to the camera or a video output terminal is used
This firmware update is for cameras with firmware version up to 1.0.4.

Canon 450D vs 400D

So, what's new and what changed?

The sensor:
  • resolution climbed to 12,4 (12,2 effective) Megapixels
  • delivering 14 bits image conversion to JPEGs and 14 bits RAW images
Viewfinder:
  • bigger one, 0.87 magnification compared to 0.80 for 400D
  • now displays ISO setting
Metering: spot (4% center) metering mode added
LCD:
  • Larger, 3" but the same resolution
  • includes LiveView with contrast detection AF
Extra functions:
  • multiple shots self-timer
  • original decision data for checking image security
  • highlight tone priority
  • auto lightning optimizer

AF: improved 9-point AF system
Menus: better usability by adding customizable My Menu
Storage: SD/SDHC cards used instead of CF
Battery: higher capacity, 1080 mAh compared to 720 mAh for 400D

450D (Rebel XSi) announced


Canon today announced the successor for their entry-level DSLR, EOS 450D/Rebel XSi.

The new 450D features a 12.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor, a larger 3” LCD screen with Live View and 9-point AF system. The new entry level camera has some features imported from higher level cameras like DIGIC III image processor, 40D style menu and new features that enable flash control from the camera. Using the DIGIC III image processor raw files are encoded using 14 bits delivering better details.

The new Live View mode introduces Live AF, an autofocus mode that can be used during the live view mode, a big improvement from higher class 40D.

The camera also introduces the long-awaited spot metering mode covering 4% of the image.

At least, but not least important, the retail price for the body will be $799.
